The Provocative Element ...Ooooh!
I think 'Agent Provocateur' is one of the wittiest brand names ever. The British lingerie, fragrance, swimwear and sunglasses got its name from the French expression for 'hidden police agents'. It was founded by Joseph Corré, the son of Vivienne Westwood, and his now ex-wife Serena Rees in 1994.
The reason why I really think the brand name is witty is because you can relate it to so many different things. Even if you don't know it was inspired by French hidden agents, the term 'provocative' or 'provocateur' describes perfectly what lingerie, perfumes and sunglasses are all about - especially those of the brand. Nothing kinky or trashy, just very sensual, seductive and enticing with a vintage feel.
And, of course, now that you know the link between the brand name and the French police agents, you can relate it to MYSTERY, ENTRAPMENT, SECRETS, HIDDEN SCHEMES - all things that can add another new level to sexual pleasure.
